The Pontiac brand is supposed to be the performance division of GM. Unfortunately, many of its key products have often overlapped with counterparts in other divisions. The situation is looking up for Pontiac, as it prepares to launch a new flagship performance sedan, the G8.

The G8 sedan fills a gaping hole in GMs product lineup for a large RWD sedan. Pontiac offers G8 models with a choice of V6 and V8 power. The 6.0L V8 model packs 360 hp under the hood. This should be enough to give all but the SRT8 Charger and 300C models a run for their money.

The performance theme carries through other products for 2008 as new GXP models join G6 and Torrent product lines. G6 GXP models feature a 250-bhp V6 and aggressive ground effects. The Torrent SUV features a 264-bhp V6 and a six-speed automatic.

Another key product for Pontiac is the Vibe wagon. The Vibe has been a success for GM offering utility and attractive styling in a compact package. The 2009 model, due in 2008 offers more of the same with updated styling and new powertrain options. Vibe continues to offer FWD and AWD models.
