What Changed in 2006 for Ford

    2006 Ford Fusion

The all-new Ford Fusion is added to bridge the gap between the Focus compact sedan and the Five Hundred large sedan effectively replacing the departing Taurus. The 5-passenger, mid-sized sedan is based on Ford's CD3 architecture derived from the Mazda6. Styling is drawn from the Ford 427 concept car shown in 2003. Fusion is offered initially with either a 160hp inline-four or 210hp V6 in FWD only. All-wheel drive and Hybrid powertrains are promised for future model years.

The Explorer has been updated for 2006. An all-new front-end and all-new interior account for the visible differences. The frame has been re-engineered and the rear suspension has been updated. Under the hood, a new 4.6L, 24-valve V8 provides an additional 53hp over last years V8. An six-speed automatic is included on V8 models.

Ford's shining star last year was the gotta-have Mustang. This year the stylish midsize Fusion sedan joins the useful-but-conservative Five Hundred in the passenger car lineup. The future hall-of-fame Explorer sees a significant update that some may be hard pressed to spot. The 2006 Explorer features a re-engineered frame/suspension, new V8 engine, new front-end styling and an all-new interior.
