The definitive midsize SUV offers an all-independent suspension and V-8 power.
Overview Information
The definitive mid-sized SUV. The Ford Explorer helped define the segment and has been a top seller. The Explorer is offered in 2-wheel and 4-wheel drive models with a choice of V6 or V8 power. Explorer offers ample room on the interior with 5, 6 and 7 passenger seating options. The independent rear suspension is fairly rare in this segment. Roll stability control helps alleviate fears of control problems.
What Changed:
The Explorer has been updated for 2006. An all-new front-end and all-new interior account for the visible differences. The frame has been re-engineered and the rear suspension has been updated. Under the hood, a new 4.6L, 24-valve V8 provides an additional 53hp over last years V8. An six-speed automatic is included on V8 models.
