Saturn finally gets a decent mid-size

Overview Information

As a replacement for the discontinued L-series sedans, the Aura is long overdue. Based closely on its Opel counterpart, this new Saturn is a credible midsize competitor. The attractive interior is a pleasant departure from the sea of plastic that plagues the Ion and earlier Saturn vehicles. A new 4-panel sliding Panoramic roof offers a greater open-air experience. Powertrain choices include a 224-bhp 3.5L OHV V-6 & 4-speed automatic, or a 252-bhp 3.6L DOHC V-6 mated to a new 6T70 6-speed automatic. Both engines use variable valve timing for enhanced power and torque. A total of six airbags and Stabilitrak® stability control are standard.

What Changed:

All-new FWD, mid-sized sedan. Two versions are initially offered. Base model XE is equipped with a 224 hp, 3.5L V6 and 4-speed automatic. The higher trim level XR features a 252 hp, 3.6L V6 and six-speed automatic.

Official Word:

The all-new 2007 Aura midsize sedan is a critical component of Saturn's new product lineup. Based on last year's concept car of the same name, the Aura blends Saturn's new design language and high levels of refinement with the brand's customer-focused purchase and ownership experience. The Aura's driving character will match its refined design, with a host of technologically sophisticated powertrains and a premium sport-sedan setup. Uplevel models feature GM's first application of a new six-speed...Read.
