The Prius family has grown to include the Prius V which replaces the steeply sloped rear hatch of the standard Prius with a higher wagon-like profile. The Prius V loses an inch of legroom but increases the cargo capacity by 12 cubic feet to 34. The extra cargo area and utility are intended to increase the appeal of the Prius for small families. Under the hood, The Prius V uses the same proprietary Hybrid Synergy Drive system which pairs a 98-bhp 1.8L inline-4 with an 80-hp electric motor for seamless operation. The heavier Prius V is rated at 44/40 (city/highway) by the EPA. Toyota offers the Prius V in three trim levels named Two, Three, and Five with pricing ranging from $27,000 to over $30,000.

What Changed:

The Prius v is a new model that combines the high-mileage hybrid powertrain of the Prius with a larger wagon body for additional utility. Compared to the Prius, the Prius v is longer by 6 inches, taller by 3.3 inches and wider by 1 inch. Like the Prius, the hybrid drive system contains a 1.8l four cylinder gas engine, an 80-hp electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery pack.
