Overview Information

Ford deserves credit for creating one of the more successful SUT vehicles. Based on the Explorer SUV, the Sport Trac differs from the rear doors back with the inclusion of a 4.5-foot composite bed. The bed includes 3 storage compartments for added utility. Sport Trac is offered with both V6 and V8 engines in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations. An independent rear suspension is a notable improvement over traditional truck-based offerings.

What Changed:

The successful Explorer Sport Trac moves to the new re-engineered Explorer platform resulting in a signicant increase in size and the refinement of an independent rear suspension. Sport Trac is offered with both V6 and V8 engines in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations. An SVT version was planned but discontinued as part of Ford's restructuring plans.

Official Word:

"Sport Trac is designed for customers who demand the comfort and refinement of a five-passenger SUV as well as a tough and rugged adventure vehicle for hauling everything from mountain bikes to landscaping supplies. The all-new 2007 Sport Trac delivers all of the multi-functional character of the original, and does it better than ever." -- Steve Lyons, group vice president, North America Marketing, Sales and Service.
