What Changed

The Saturn coupes are restyled for 1997. Both models now share a common shape with fixed exposed headlights and design cues consistent with last year's redesigned sedans. The new coupe is longer, being based on the newer sedan chassis. SC1 is powered by the SOHC 1.9-liter Saturn engine (100hp), while the SC2 receives the DOHC version which produces 124hp. Both engines are available with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Brakes are front disc/rear drum without ABS by default. Rear discs are an option on the SC2, and ABS is an option on both models. Externally, the only differences between the SC1 and SC2 are the standard foglights and spoiler on the SC2.
