New or Significantly Altered Models
The i3 is an all-new electric vehicle from BMW. BMW anticipates a range of 80-100 miles. An optional range extending gas engine will double that range.
The Corvette enters its seventh generation with an all-new model for 2014. Although the profile of the hood and roof is familiar, the new model wears a number of styling details that are a break with tradition. The most notable styling changes are from the b-pillar where Corvette loses its glass bubble back in favor of a hard roofline and rear windows. In terms of size, the new model is longer in wheelbase and length, but somewhat narrower in overall width. Power is provided by a new 6.2l V8 rated at 450-bhp.
The Spark EV is a new battery-electric vehicle largely intended for California and foreign markets. The Spark EV is powered by a 130-hp electric motor. A 20-kWh lithium ion battery can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 20 minutes.
The second generation Fit has been restyled. While the overall length has decreased, a longer wheelbase yields a significant increase in interior space. The Fit now boasts an impressive 80.7 in of combined legroom. The 1.5l engine is more powerful than before at 130-bhp, yet more fuel-efficient when paired with the new six-speed manual and CVT transmissions. The trim levels are now LX, EX, and EX-L which match other Honda models.
The Mazda3 is all-new for 2014. The new model has a longer wheelbase and wider track, but is slightly shorter in height and length than the prior model. Interior legroom is similar, but overall interior volume has increased. Two powertrains are offered: a 2.0l four-cylinder rated at 155-bhp and a 2.5l four-cylinder rated at 184-bhp
The new 2014 Mini Cooper Hardtop is the first of the next generation of Minis. Compared to the prior model, the 2014 model is wider and significantly longer. A turbocharged 1.5l 3-cylinder engine is the new standard powertrain. Horsepower is rated at 134-bhp, up from 121-bhp in the prior model.
Nissan reworked the Versa sedan for the 2012 model year, and the 5d follows suit for the 2014 model year. The new model is slightly shorter in length, but is otherwise the same size as before. Like the sedan, a 1.6l four-cylinder engine is standard on all models. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual or CVT. Nissan projects fuel economy ratings of 31 city / 40 highway.
Porsche's entry-level coupe is all-new for 2014. Although the new model is nearly identical in length and width, it is lower with a significantly longer wheelbase and wider track. The base powertrain is a 2.7l horizontal six-cylinder rated at 275-bhp. The Cayman S equips a 3.4l six-cylinder now rated at 325-bhp. Both engines are available with either a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed automated gearbox. In typical Porsche fashion, styling changes are subtle.
The tC gains new styling in the front and rear for 2014. The new styling adds a larger lower intake to the front and a lower blacked out area below the rear bumper. Power is still provided by a 2.5l four-cylinder engine paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
Trim and options changes
A CVT transmission replaces the optional 4-speed automatic.
The battery capacity has increased to 17.1 kWh
The 2015 500 has a redesigned center console with a TFT display on most models. Abarth and Turbo models add an optional automatic transmission.
A new 2.0l four-cylinder engine becomes the new standard engine.
The new XKR-S GT is a track-ready but street legal variant of the XK coupe. Power is provided by a 543-bhp supercharged V8 engine. The GT model also includes a height adjustable suspension, revised aerodynamics, ceramic brakes and 20-inch wheels and tires.
The 370Z NISMO wears updated exterior and interior styling. The most noticeable change is to the front fascia which has includes GT-R styling cues. The 370Z coupe also gains new Sport and Sport Tech trim levels.
The Panamera gains a GTS model. The Panamera GTS is powered by a 430-bhp V8 and slots above the 4S in the lineup.
The Viper adds a track-oriented handling package.
The Beetle Turbo becomes the R-Line. A limited-edition GSR model is added to the lineup. The 2.5l five-cylinder engine will be replaced mid-year by a 1.8l turbocharged four-cylinder.
The 2014 Golf and GTI 5d are available in limited numbers.
