Though the name is trendy, the Matrix is actually a very practical compact station wagon. Sporty styling helps dispel the notion that wagons must look utilitarian. A 126-bhp, 1.8L I-4 powers the Matrix. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. Options include a JBL® 6-disc CD audio system, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The AWD and XRS performance models have been dropped from the lineup. A limited-edition Matrix M-Theory model features a bright blue paint job, 215/50R17 tires, a strut-tower brace, and four-wheel disc brakes. Only 2500 will be produced.
