2006 Toyota RAV4

2006 Toyota RAV4

The Toyota Rav4 was one of the first compact SUV offerings on the market. Defined by cutsey styling and utility, the diminutive size had become a bit of a liability in the US market. It should come as no surprise that the third generation model has grown considerably in size. Riding on a wheelbase that is 6.7 inches longer, the new RAV4 has grown by 3 inches in width and a foot in overall length. The size increase makes the "compact" RAV4 larger than the "mid-sized" Highlander by some calculations. The larger size allows for optional 3-row seating and optional V6 power. The base powertrain is a 166 hp, 2.4L four cylinder with a 4-speed automatic. A 500 lb increase in curb weight over last years model will make the 269 hp, V6 model with the 5-speed automatic more rewarding model to drive. In all, three trim levels are offered: Base, Sport and Limited in 2WD and 4WD configurations with either 2 or 3 rows of seats. As with other Toyota SUVS, ABS, traction control and stability control are all standard.
