Even though the base Impreza is overshadowed by the hotter WRX, it is the only affordable AWD compact sedan sold in the USA. On snowy and slick roads, the advantages of AWD are obvious. A powerful 173-bhp 2.5L flat-4 gives the Impreza an edge over most other competitors. Transmissions available include a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. A comprehensive set of standard features makes the Impreza an excellent value.

All Impreza models get new front end styling. Addition of variable valve lift technology boosts power to 173 hp from 165hp. The 2.5RS model has been renamed 2.5i for consistency with the Legacy.
