Since it is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser platform, the full-size LX470 has the pedigree for serious off-road travel. The addition of extra luxury features makes the 8-passenger LX470 more palatable for upscale customers. A 4.7L V-8 mated to a 5-speed automatic is the only powertrain. Full-time 4WD is standard. Towing capacity is 5,000 lbs. Safety features include ABS, VSC (Vehicle Stability Control), side-impact airbags for 1st and 2nd row passengers, and a side-curtain airbag system. Options such as a Mark Levinson® audio system, rear seat entertainment system, and a night view system are available.

Variable valve timing boosts the output of the 4.7L V8 to 275hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The 11 speaker Mark Levinson audio system becomes standard.
