The Acura Automobile Division unveiled the 1996 edition of its bestselling Integra Sports Coupe and Sports Sedan automobiles. This year's new designs focus on exterior enhancements.

Since 1994, the Integra has been the number-one-selling automobile in its category. Improvements to the 1996 Acura automobiles, which are available in RS, LS, Special Edition and GS-R models, include: new lightweight, six-spoke alloy wheels on Special Edition and GS-R models; sporty, redesigned wheel covers on all RS and LS models; Bodycolored side mouldings on LS Sports Coupe and Sports Sedan; and green-tinted window glass applied to all models to screen out ultraviolet rays for a cooler interior.

"The Acura Integra has become synonymous with performance, value and quality," said Rich Thomas, Acura executive vice president and general manager. "The enhancements we've made to the 1996 Integra Sports Coupes and Sports Sedans add a new dimension in style and refinement to the Integra line."

The RS, LS and Special Edition Integra~models are equipped with a 1.B-liter, 140-hp, DOHC, 16-valve engine. They are available with a .5-speed manual or an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission. The optional electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission is equipped with Acura's Grade Logic Control System to reduce "gear hunting" for optimal uphill accelerationor downhill engine braking.

The GS-R models feature a 1.B-liter, 170-hp" DOHC, 16-valve engine equipped with the innovative Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system pioneered in the NSX sports car. The GS-R is available exclusively with a performance-oriented close ratio 5-speed manual transmission.

All Integra models feature a fully independent double-wishbone suspension system, which is widely recognized for its ability to provide r~sponsive handling and ride comfort. The Special Edition and GS-R feature additional suspension refinements for more sporty performance, including larger 6.0B x 15 alloy wheels equipped with P195/55 R15 Michelin XGT-V4 high-performance tires.

Standard on all Integra models are power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, ventilated at the front and solid at the rear. Also standard on the LS, Special Edition and GS-R models is a standard Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). This system is designed to minimize pedal kickback and maximize pedal feel while reducing the possibility of wheel lockup to help the driver retain steering control even during maximum braking.

The Integra uses front and rear crumple zones designed to help absorb and dissipate crash energy before it reaches the passenger compartment. The doors are equipped with sideintrusion door beams to reduce the possibility of injury in the event of a side impact. In addition, the Integra uses special side-impact pads in the door to further absorb impact energy. These features, in combination with the seat belts and Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) air bags are standard for both driver and front pass~nger in all Integra models to provide a comprehensive safety package.

The Integra LS, Special Edition and GS-R models include a high-capacity air conditioning system and powerr moonroof as standard equipment.

All 1995 Integra models are equipped with a complete list of comfort and convenience items, such as a standard tilt-adjustable steering column, power windows and door mirrors, a power antenna, a AM/FM stereo/cassette music system, remote trunk/fuel-filler door releases and more.

Like all Acura models, the Integra Sports Coupe and Sports Sedan are covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. Additional ownership benefits include Acura Total Luxury Care (TLC)(TM) program priveleges such as free 24-hour, Roadside Assistance, Concierge Service, trip routing and more. The full line of Acura luxury performance automobiles is available at nearly 300 Acura dealers nationwide.
