Fresh air invigorates the spirit and renews the soul. Whether it's a majestic drive along a rocky coastline or the rigors of a daily commute, the Volvo C70 hardtop convertible turns any road into an outdoor adventure. At the touch of a button, the three-piece retractable hardtop of this turbocharged coupe magically disappears into the trunk revealing panoramic vistas and ear-to-ear grins.

For 2013, customers can select the well-appointed C70, which gains standard rain sensor windshield wipers and headlight washers, or add more comfort, convenience and technology. The Premier Plus trim level includes LED daytime running lights, Keyless Drive, Homelink, rear park assist and an integrated compass for the auto-dimming rear view mirror. While the Platinum trim features all the contents of Premier Plus, and adds Volvo Premium Sound and Navigation systems.

The unique enhancements of the Inscription Package can increase the enjoyment factor of any C70. Polestar, a Swedish racing and performance products company, optimized the output of the C70's engine by performance tuning the Engine Control Module (ECM). More air and fuel are funneled into the combustion chambers and spark timing is advanced, creating notable performance improvement. Thus the turbocharged T5 engine generates 250 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque, for gains of 23 horsepower and 27 lb.-ft.

Additional Inscription Package features include 18-inch "Midir" wheels with polished spokes and gloss black finish, leather-covered dash with contrasting stitching, active dual Xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, gloss-black grille, a rear spoiler, aluminum sport pedals, "Inscription" embroidered front seats, leather-covered handbrake with accent stitching, sport steering wheel with aluminum inserts and Inscription floor mats. Black Sapphire Metallic remains an exclusive color choice for the Inscription Package.

Customers retain the flexibility to add the C70's Climate and Dynamic packages to any trim level. Individual items from the list of stand-alone options include Black Oak inlays, giving the cabin the warm look of real wood on the ultra-slim center control panel, center console and door handle surrounds. Sovereign Hide leather is standard on all C70 trim levels. Cranberry leather can be specified as a no-charge option.

The C70's standard Bluetooth includes an audio streaming connection. Drivers can listen to music from their compatible cell phones via the C70's audio system. They can create playlists using Pandora or Grooveshark, synchronize with the phone and then play them wirelessly using Bluetooth.

Driving pleasure excels in the C70 with its standard turbocharged T5 engine mated to a five-speed "Geartronic" automatic transmission. Output for the 2.5-liter light-pressure turbo powerplant is 227 horsepower at 5,000 rpm with torque at 236 lb.-ft. from 1,500 to 4,800 rpm. The flat torque curve puts the power to the front wheels evenly and makes the car highly responsive.

Thanks to the use of full synthetic motor oil, service intervals have been extended for 2013. The recommended interval is now 10,000 mile or 12 months (whichever comes first), increased from the previous 7,500 miles.

As a Volvo, the C70 is fitted with an impressive array of safety features. An important part of side impact and rollover protection is the Inflatable Curtain (IC). In the C70 it has been given a unique design. The curtain has an extra stiff construction with double rows of slats that are slightly offset from each other. This allows them to remain upright and offer effective head protection even with the window open. The curtain also deflates slowly to provide protection should the car roll over. This is a unique solution in the automotive world, and a world first for a four-passenger convertible.
