Although comparisons to the Prius are obvious, the goal of the Insight is to bring the cost of a dedicated hybrid model down. The hybrid system used in the Insight may not be as complex as Toyota's but the results are similar. By pairing a 1.3L gas engine with a small electric motor, the Insight is able to earn an EPA rating of 40 mpg city, 43 mpg highway. The hybrid system in the Insight can run under electric power, but does so less often than in the Prius. The simplicity pays dividends in terms of weight savings, but more importantly in the price of the vehicle. A number of indicators in the instrumentation provide feedback and guidance on how to drive your hybrid to maximize mileage. The small five-door offers seating for five and a large useful hatch for cargo.

What Changed:

The Insight gains a new base model. The base model has a less capable stereo, and drops the security system.
