A new crossover for Suzuki

Overview Information

The subcompact SX4 SUV is based on the same platform as the Suzuki Swift sedan. According to Suzuki, the SX4 name is derived from (S)port (X)-over for (4) seasons. Originally introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the SX4 fits below the Grand Vitara SUV in Suzuki's vehicle portfolio. A standard 143-bhp 2.0L inline-4 sends power to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic. The AWD system has a differential lock to enhance traction at low speed on slippery surfaces. Standard front, side-impact, and side-curtain airbags are surprising extras at this price level. Other safety options include ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to improve handling in extreme driving conditions. Suzuki aims the SX4 as an alternative to the inexpensive SUVs from Korean manufacturers.
