Subaru may be one of the best-kept secrets in the industry. Subaru has an entire line of quality fuel-efficient vehicles, and every model includes AWD as standard equipment.

The big news for Subaru is the arrival of an all-new Impreza line of small cars. Although the Impreza is well known for the WRX performance versions, few remember that Subaru offers one of the only small cars on the market with AWD for under $20,000. The 2008 Impreza line consists of a sedan and a 5-door hatchback with a more upright rear hatch than its predecessor. Impreza has grown by some four inches in overall length. Powertrain options remain the same, with all model variants featuring a version of Subaru's horizontally opposed four-cylinder engines. WRX performance models are offered in both body styles, but the range topping WRX STI has moved from the sedan to the 5-door.

The Tribeca crossover receives more power and updated front-end styling. The original grille was controversial, so Subaru has toned it down with a more conservative appearance. In addition, the Tribeca also benefits from a new larger displacement 3.6L boxer engine that produces more power.

Subaru has also simplified the model range of its Legacy-based sedans and wagons. All sedans will be offered as Legacy sedans, while all wagons will be sold as Outbacks.

Next up for Subaru is an all-new version of its diminutive, but quick Forester SUV.
