The first generation IS came to Lexus by way of Toyota. While the RWD entry-level Lexus was quite competent, it was never quite as solid as its siblings. The new IS a purpose-built Lexus with the refinement, gadgetry and flawless execution to match. On paper, the new IS will pose a credible threat to the standard-bearing 3-series. Two V6 models will be offered: the 200hp IS250 and the 300hp IS350. The IS250 will be offered in both RWD and AWD. All models feature six-speed transmissions, but only the RWD IS250 offers a stick.
All-new IS is over 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider than the model it replaces. US models will be powered by either a 2.5L V6 or 3.5L V6. AWD is offered on the IS250. Also offered, will be the first diesel engine from Lexus.
"We have been obsessed by attention to detail. As a Lexus, the new IS cannot simply adopt new technologies. Everything has to touch perfection, and work together beautifully." Suguya Fukusato, IS Chief Engineer
