The aluminum-bodied XJ is Jaguar's premium sedan. A 4.2L V-8 and 6-speed automatic assure excellent performance. The luxurious interior has generous amounts of Burl Walnut veneer and leather seats. The XJ8L stretched wheelbase model provides additional rear legroom. The Vanden Plas (based on the XJ8L chassis) offers power rear seats, even more wood trim, and exotic lamb's wool carpets. Performance enthusiasts will prefer the sporty XJR with its supercharged V-8, firmer suspension, 19-inch wheels with BremboŽ brakes, and an aggressive mesh grille. The Super V8 model takes the supercharged 4.2L engine, mates it to the long wheelbase chassis, adds DVD Navigation, and a rear entertainment system with dual TV monitors.
New long wheelbase model is 5 inches longer and the longest Jaguar ever produced. Only 17 body parts differ between the short and long wheelbase versions of the XJ. The LWB is weighs only 53 lbs more. The extra length adds 4.5 in of legroom in the rear seat.
"The long wheelbase models add another dimension to the XJ line-up. These vehicles were designed from the outset to be long wheelbase cars, therefore the 'stretch' seems natural in the styling and feel of the car. It's the largest Jaguar ever built, providing customers with unsurpassed cabin space while maintaining high levels of luxury and performance as one would come to expect from a Jaguar." -- Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars
